Having made a change, it is all to easy to forget that there will be similarities with the past. You carry the past with you -including all your life experiences, skills and insights. I sometimes forget this and a change can be more overwhelming than it needs to be. My expectations of myself in a new situation can make me feel like I better find out about x, learn y and what about z. This can make me feel paralysed and somewhat disappointed that this new scenario is not what I am looking for. Once I calm down and start to integrate the past with the new situation - I relax. The discomfort - necessary and predictable ( yet unforeseen / blocked out by me) soon gets the room it needs to help me engage and move with the new stage of life. We humans make things so complicated. Great piece of writing Baillie and love the reflective questions.

One may consider if knowing, predicting future feelings would be an advantage or disadvantage. I guess at times not knowing how you would feel about a situation, future state or a place is part of life discovery and excitement.
